A lot like love is a testament to the modern status quo, an example of the revolutionised Kannywood productions that brings to mind the predominant subject matters in decades of Kannywood movies we’ve been familiar with. It showcases Kannywood’s development, expansion, and growth cinematically. The usual subject matters centre on family, relationships, and morality, which hinges on religion.
The Plot
A lot like love opens with the discussion of wealthy Alhaji and his daughter, Fanna. He gifts his daughter and her husband an all-paid vacation trip to Turkey on their wedding anniversary, with the promise that she will take over from him when she returns. As Abdul and Fanna, the lucky groom and wealthy heir-loom, prepare to travel for the vacation, they are attacked in their home, and Abdul is abducted.

In the dilemma of not informing any family members as instructed by the abductors, Fanna struggles to keep it secret as her circle of friends, including an ex-lover, compounds her troubles. With the demand of $500 000, later split in half, tension rises, conflict of interest builds up, and Fanna falsely accuses Musty. The question remains: who will save Abdul? To what extent can a loving wife prove and jeopardize her safety, relationships, and wealth for her husband? Is perfect love possible? Is it superficial or real? Which is more important, love or trust? Does wealth attract true love?
A lot like love underscores expectations of love when wealth is involved, couples love life with or without children, socio-opinion about barrenness, love, lies, and compromises in relationships. Fanna, after the abduction amidst the distraught, begins to reminisce about the loving moments they had. She chases her friends who offered to help and sticks to her gut. To what end?
