The KwaMashu African Film Festival (KAFF) is set to captivate audiences once again as it celebrates its 21st anniversary from December 10 to 15. Hosted at the K-Cap Ekhaya Multi-Arts Centre in KwaMashu, this year’s edition promises an expanded program showcasing the richness and diversity of African cinema through film screenings, workshops, and thought-provoking panel discussions.
The festival will kick off with the highly anticipated premiere of Love Lottery, directed by Mlungisi Mhlanga. Featuring emerging talent from KwaZulu-Natal, including Nombulelo Mhlongo, Nelisa Mchunu, and Thabo Malema, the film highlights the vibrant creativity of local artists.

Founder Edmund Mhlongo expressed his excitement about the milestone, noting that the 21st year represents a symbolic key to unlocking new opportunities for filmmakers. He emphasized the festival’s commitment to showcasing the power of African stories to educate, inspire, and entertain audiences while providing a platform for emerging talent to shine.
In addition to its film screenings, KAFF will feature workshops and masterclasses led by renowned industry figures like Lucky Simayile, Siphesihle Cele, and Nompilo Maphumulo. The event will also include the popular ‘Hosting a TV Family’ segment, offering audiences a surprise meet-and-greet experience.
The festival will close with Amathambo, a poignant film by Sabelo Ndlovu and Busani Mbili, exploring themes of healing and acceptance within a family. As KAFF gears up for this vibrant celebration, it continues to solidify its role as a cultural hub for African cinema.
