Introducing KITFO TV, a new streaming platform focused on showcasing Ethiopian and Eritrean filmmakers, giving them the spotlight they deserve. These filmmakers, who have often been overlooked on the global stage, now have a platform created by and for them.
Along with the platform, KITFO introduced a crowdfunding campaign and a new series called KITFO Conversations, which aims to spark meaningful discussions about the issues shaping East African storytelling today.
Before officially launching, KITFO made a splash with a three-day film festival in Los Angeles, in collaboration with American Cinematheque and supported by ARRAY. The excitement didn’t stop there; they also held an event in Addis Ababa, supported by the U.S. Embassy, attracting over 400 film lovers. This proves that there is a growing demand for authentic stories from the Horn of Africa.
KITFO TV was founded by Denkinesh Argaw, whose vision for the platform is simple; KITFO is about ownership, access, and visibility. She emphasizes that KITFO isn’t just a streaming service; it’s a space where their stories can be respected and celebrated globally.
Ethiopian and Eritrean filmmakers have faced many challenges, from limited resources to political obstacles, yet their cultures remain rich and vibrant. KITFO TV changes the narrative by giving creators the freedom to tell their own stories.
On the platform, viewers can enjoy a mix of classic Ethiopian films, new independent works from the diaspora, and much more. KITFO is not just about watching movies; it’s about connecting East African voices with the world.
