The Thokoza Film Festival is set to return to South Africa for its second annual edition from October 29 to November 2 in Thokoza, Gauteng province. Known for showcasing new talent, this year’s festival will screen films by directors from Argentina, Brazil, India, China, and Russia, alongside African filmmakers. TV BRICS, an international media network, will serve as the event’s media partner, adding an international dimension to the festival’s reach.
Organizers describe the festival as a key opportunity for emerging filmmakers to gain recognition, network, and share their work with a diverse audience. The lineup features a range of documentaries, short films, and feature films from both African creators and international talents. Films like “Golden Coast of the Arctic” and “Heilongjiang: Zone of Sustainable Economic Development” by Russian director Andrey Porshnyak, “Water” from Indian filmmakers Diya Mari Shaju and Diya Futan, “Counterattack” by Brazilian director Victor Uchoa, and Argentine film “My Brother Joaquin” by Luciano Giardino are among the highlights of this year’s program.
The festival will also offer educational opportunities with masterclasses, where novice filmmakers can learn from industry veterans. These sessions aim to help aspiring creators enhance their skills while gaining insights into filmmaking techniques and industry best practices. Experienced film professionals will lead discussions covering essential aspects of film production, the challenges in the industry, and the emerging opportunities within the creative sector.
Launched in 2022, the Thokoza Film Festival has already become a vital platform for over 200 young filmmakers, providing them with a space to grow and gain exposure. Organizers hope the festival will continue to support new talent and contribute to the vibrant film industry in Africa and beyond.
